Also had a WWII-inspired ‘94 M edition race alongside me.

Maybe owning it will make you feel differently, I think that’s what they mean when “meet your hero” refers to a car.

Potentially! I guess it could also refer to driving it. I know it’s an overly-complex, heavy, potentially-unreliable, and slow-by-today’s-standards sports car but I can’t help but love the way the R33 looks.

I’m sure it would feel fast enough even by today’s standards. ~300hp is nothing to be sneezed at. But it might feel too rough and/or unrefined.

Funny that it’s your favourite - I believe the R33 is a bit of a black sheep amongst many.

I’ve owned an R32 and R33. The 32 was a GTS-T(RB20 RWD) and the 33 was a GT-R.

Just know whenever you buy parts and you say it’s a GT-R the cashier automatically adds 20% to the bill. GTS-T brake pads 20 bucks, GT-R pads 90 bucks. GTS-T air filter 14 bucks, GT-R air filter 40 bucks.

They’re fun cars, but we as americans drool over them. Then you go buy one, and it’s a love/hate relationship every damn time that engine turns over. You love the idea of knowing you own Godzilla, you love that at a flick of the gas pedal warp mode is engaged. You hate it when it doesn’t start on a rainy day, and you’re stuck walking 3 miles in the rain back to the base to get your friends to help. You hate that after that walk, you realize you need a tow and because it’s a GT-R they need to send out a special tow truck because “it too low”, so your bill costs even more. Even though the car is slightly above stock height.

For everything good and amazing I loved about GT-R and Skyline ownership, there’s at least 10 fold things that just makes you want to leave it on the side of the road on fire.

Although, this is my case. Where most of the “affordable” skylines were cars that probably seen nothing less than 5k rpm it’s whole life. The thing was, it was either spend 10k on a car and get a good one or spend 2k on a bad one and spend the other 8k making it yours. Only to realize you spent alot of money on a car that stays in Japan, unless you got orders to Europe(where you could take it with you for 2500 bucks).

Skyline ownership is like Doug’s Aston Martin. Sure it looks cool in the driveway, and it’s fun to put your keys on the table and someone sees a GT-R key, but in the back of your head you know the car was nothing but the best worst financial decision of your life.
